DARREN Lock is a major injury doubt for Bridport’s Toolstation Western League Division One fixture with Clevedon United tomorrow (3pm).

The Bees’ skipper sustained a knock to his knee during Tuesday night’s 5-1 drubbing by Bradford Town, which forced him out of action prematurely.

In his second season as captain, Lock has been an ever-present figure whose performances have been characterised by unbowed commitment.

Boss Trevor Senior said: “Knowing Darren he will be alright but we’ll have to wait and see. He’s a whole-hearted player and Bridport through and through.

“He got tangled up with a Bradford Town player and banged his knee. It takes a lot to prevent Darren from playing so he’ll do all he can to recover.”

Besides long-term casualties Matt Moors and Lewis Cocker – and the unavailable Toni Musumeci – Gary Bulman is the latest player to have been ruled out.

The talented midfielder has been nursing a virus but despite returning to full health, Senior revealed he is likely to regain match fitness with the reserves.

Unpredictable Clevedon arrive at St Mary’s Field seeking to recover from a hat-trick of defeats, which has plummeted them down into 11th spot.

Following an encouraging start in which they won three out of four, victories have become harder to achieve and their form has deteriorated.

Much like Bridport, Clevedon are desperate for maximum points and both teams will have identified tomorrow’s showdown as an ideal chance to arrest their respective declines.

Senior, whose side are amid a gruelling run of seven games in 22 days, added: “I don’t know too much about Clevedon but they have had some mixed results so far.

“By all accounts they are quite good going forward but not so good when they haven’t got the ball. But I’m not too worried about the opposition on this occasion.

“All we need to do is focus on ourselves and try to be more clinical in the final third, whether that is with a pass or with a shot.

“We do need more quality up front and to punish teams more but it is difficult right now because we have got three strikers either injured or unavailable.”
