BRENDON King has pledged his future to Chickerell United and dismissed speculation linking him with the manager’s job at Hamworthy United.

Word has spread this week attaching the Chickens’ boss to the County Ground post, which was vacated by Phil Simkin last month.

But King told Echosport he has ruled himself out of contention and is fully focused on piloting Chickerell to Dorset Premier League honours.

He said: “My name’s been mentioned but I’ve got a job to do here. It’s not the right thing for me at the moment but I’m flattered to have been linked.

“There are some top people with a huge amount of pedigree going for that job. I’d certainly like to progress at some point but I am happy where I am.

“I believe in my ability but this is my first job on my own. I want to bring silverware to Chickerell United and that’s the only thing I’m worried about.”

The Chickens travel to Cobham Sports tomorrow (3pm) and could be boosted by the inclusion of instrumental midfielder Richard Marshallsay.

Marshallsay has served a 35-day suspension but has also been nursing a knee ligament injury that would have sidelined him throughout September regardless.

King said: “Richard has been working very hard to get back to full fitness and we are going to make a late decision on whether he plays with us or the reserves.

“We’re going to see who is available because we’ve got quite a few players who are struggling with injury at the moment.

“Richard is a massive player for us - he’s like a Duracell battery that keeps going and going.”

Josh Evans will undergo a fitness test prior to the match but Gavin Daniels and skipper Dan Welch are both in the frame to feature.

King admitted prolific marksman Adam Linaker is still not functioning at 100 per cent, while Andy Hall and Kevin Paice are both unavailable.

Previewing tomorrow’s encounter, King added: “Cobham are quite physical - as are a lot of teams in this league - so we’ll have to be able to counter it.

“If we match teams in that department then we have the quality that will shine through.”
