MILDENHALL ace Taylor Poole has been drafted in to help the Wey-mouth Wildcats in their bid to complete one of the greatest comebacks in speedway.

The Cats host Dorset rivals the Bournemouth Buccaneers tonight (7.15pm), needing to overturn a 33-point deficit to book their place in the National League play-off final.

And 16-year-old Poole will act as a guest rider in the absence of the injured Mark Burrows, who has once again been re-admitted to hospital.

Team manager Jem Dicken is looking forward to seeing the young Aussie take to the Wessex Bus Raceway.

He said: “Taylor is the best rider I’ve seen in action this year and at Mildenhall he was a joy to watch.

“He has no fear and can overtake anywhere, inside or outside, and should adapt to our track without any problem.

“It should also add that extra bit of spice to what already will be a great meeting and also gives our loyal fans the opportunity to see for themselves a rider who will no doubt become a regular on the Grand Prix circuit in a few years’ time.”

When asked about his side’s chances this evening, Dicken added: “Thirty-three points is a big ask, but some of the team have been bitterly disappointed with their form of late and are desperate to put things right – they are like a wild animal trapped in a corner and are going to fight for all their worth.”
