WEYMOUTH travel to Bridport in a derby match that could decide who ends the weekend at the summit of Dorset & Wilts League Division One South.

Fifth-placed Weymouth have the worst points difference of the five sides locked at the top on eight points, while Bridport have the best and are the current leaders.

A crippling injury jinx has struck Bridport ahead of the much-anticipated derby, with nine first-team regulars struggling for fitness ahead of the game at the Brewery Ground tomorrow (2.30pm).

Weymouth captain Mark Sample said: “They have been a bit of a bogey side for us in recent years – we haven’t beaten them since December 2007, and that was at home.

“It’s actually a real challenge for the guys to try and turn that round because you have to go even further back for a Weymouth victory at the Brewery Ground."

Bridport coach Paul Ninnim added: “I imagine it will be a tight game but if we play to our potential I think we can win.

“Last year we beat them quite comfortably at home and drew with them away. We've got a lot of players out but have more strength in depth than in previous years.

“I’m hoping the sun will come out. Last time Weymouth beat us it was wet and the conditions suited them. Hopefully the sun will arrive at 2.30pm.”

Southern Counties League South Division leaders Dorchester travel to third-placed North Dorset tomorrow (2.30pm) looking to fend off their near-neighbours, who will leapfrog the county town side should they win.

Dorchester coach Mike Sprules said: “It’s going to be a hard game, especially at their place, and obviously they are smarting at the fact they were defeated for the first time last week down at Frome. We’ll probably face a bit of a backlash from that.”

A wedding and international weekend means skipper Dave Gower, James Newson, Tom Gower and Lee Harvey will all be missing from Dorchester’s squad.

Meanwhile, back in Dorset & Wilts Division One South, Puddletown are also in action at Slaughtergate where they face high-flying North Dorset Seconds (2.30pm).

Number eight Dave Holah is expected to be available following illness, but otherwise the Villagers will select from an unchanged squad for the first time this season.

Captain Dan Udell is relishing the prospect of fielding his strongest team and said: “We really started to play as a unit in the second half against Warminster last week.

“If we can perform to that standard for the whole game then I believe we could pull off a surprise on Saturday".

n Puddletown are holding their annual Vice-Presidents’ and Old Boys’ Day at Greenfields on Saturday November 14.

Lunch will be from 1pm to be followed by the Puddletown versus Westbury Dorset & Wilts One South game at 2.30pm.

All players and members, past and present, are invited to attend.
