Under-14 County Cup Semi-final CHICKERELL UNITED 4 POOLE TOWN WESSEX 1 THE league’s top two sides met in the semi-final of the County Cup and produced a scintillating display of football which finally resulted in the Chickens going through to their fourth final in five years.

The opening exchanges were well contested with chances at both ends.

The home side finally made the breakthrough from a Jordan Tewkesbury inswinging corner, which Charlie Cheeseman in the Poole goal could only palm into the net.

United had chances to increase the lead but Loius Smith headed against a post and then nodded wide after a brilliant cross from Tewkesbury.

The visitors were always dangerous and, when a high upfield ball was not dealt with, a cool finish saw the scores level at half-time. The resumption of play saw both sides attack but the home side, with Curtis Hansford catching the eye in defence, looked the most likely to score.

The pressure finally told when Liam Tugwell chased a loose ball down the visitors’ right and crossed superbly for the onrushing Tewkesbury to head home.

The Chickens’ confidence started to flow and Smith added an excellent third.

George Simmonds, in the Chickens’ goal, then had to pull off a great save to keep the two-goal advantage before Smith smashed in the fourth to put the
