ADAM Tidby produced a sparkling personal performance when skipping his national fours rink to victory in the area semi-final.

Tidby, alongside Dorchester team-mates Nick Voss and Shaun and Darren Nutman, was up against the Moonfleet quartet of Keith Wyman, Mike Pearson, Peter Read and Alf Sawkins, who had overturned strong opposition in previous rounds and were hoping to continue their giant-killing run.

However, Tidby posted a four on the first end and, as a result of some high quality turnaround shots, nullified any promising scoring ends that Moonfleet held.

At 11-2 down, Sawkins briefly stemmed the tide with a single and a brace, but felt the sting of the Tidby response when five successive ends went to the Dorchester quartet.

With only 13 ends of the scheduled 21 completed, Sawkins – having won just three of those ends – shook hands and the game was terminated at 19-5.

For Darren Nutman, it is area final appearance number five. However, so far he has missed two opportunities for an appearance at the national finals – the Champion of Champions and the mixed fours.

Darren is now pinning his hopes on the pairs at Bridport on February 20 against Louis Ridout of Ilminster, followed by the fours at Ilminster on February 24 against Clarrie Dunbar, and the singles at Yeovil on February 20 against international Graham Shadwell of Clarrie Dunbar.
