RISING star Jamie Symes will be invited back for a second trial with Championship heavyweights Blackpool once he turns 17.

Symes recently travelled to Lancashire for an audition in front of Tangerines’ manager Ian Holloway, who had been alerted about the youngster’s rich potential.

Poor weather curtailed Symes’ stay and forced the postponement of a practice match in which he had been pencilled in to feature for the club’s under-18s against their Burnley counterparts.

But such was the strong impression he had made that the Dorchester Town and Bridport midfielder has been asked to return after his landmark birthday this summer.

Reflecting on his experience, Symes said: “It was a great experience and amazing to train with the first team.

“They were a great bunch of lads and happy to give me advice.

“I couldn’t believe it when Ian Holloway told me I had impressed him. He said he wants to have a proper look at me, so I’m going to go back up when I’m 17.

“I’ll get the chance to play in some proper matches and really get involved. Hopefully I’ll be able to show him what I can do all over again.”

Another successful trial would raise the prospect of Symes being offered a professional contract, which would leave him facing a potentially life-changing decision.

He added: “There are a lot of things that I would have to consider but if the chance of a contract came along it would be hard not to take it.

“Blackpool is a very long way away and I’d be away from my family and friends, but sometimes you have to make these decisions to get what you want.”
