PARLEY SPORTS 3 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0

ONE of Weymouth Reserves’ youngest sides of the season crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Parley Sports to slip to ninth in the Dorset Premier League.

A number of under-18s were on show, including some who played 90 minutes in the morning for the Terras’ youngsters in a 0-0 draw with their Merthyr Tydfil counterparts.

Two set-pieces undid Weymouth in the first half before a well-worked second-half strike compounded their misery and lifted Parley to 11th.

“We new it was going to be difficult,” said reserve boss Dave Kiteley. “We were really stretched with the under-18s playing in the morning, as well as losing our centre-halves Stephen Walker and Jordan Vincent to work.

“Sam Poole and Mark Brock did well and are the positives out of the game, but we just didn’t have enough quality.

“Parley were not as good as earlier in the season but we gave ourselves a mountain to climb and conceded two goals in the first half to a corner and a free-kick.”

Jamie Morgan had a penalty shout turned down when the scores were 0-0 but Lee O’Connell was lost in action as Parley headed in at the post he was supposed to be defending and then saw his afternoon get worse when he conceded a free-kick that led to the home side’s second.

John Lamb limped off at the break to be replaced by Eddie Mitchell, who had played 90 minutes for the under-18s in the morning, and Parley got in behind Mitchell to score number three.

“We were naïve,” added Kiteley. “They are kids and they switched off. It’s the mundane things they of the game they have to learn very quickly if they are going to progress.”

The Terras next travel to Swanage Town & Herston tomorrow night before visiting title favourites and local rivals Chickerell United on Thursday (both 6.30pm).

Terras: Roberts, Lamb (Mitchell 46), O’Connell (Head 60), Brock, Poole, Cole, Morley, Reiffer, McKechnie, Morgan (Howard 75), Sibley.
