YOUNG cricketers were given the Chance to Shine during a special Easter Cricket camp run by Portland Red Triangle.

As part of the club’s commitment to the Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine scheme, it ran the day-long camp of coaching and competition to give under-16s an early chance to dust off their bats ahead of the summer season.

Red Triangle coaches Gary Randell and Grant Neven put the group through a full range of exercises, which both tested and improved skills in all aspects of the game.

The group was further tested during lunch by Randell’s tricky umpire’s quiz to help improve the children’s knowledge of the game – nine-year-old Amber Lane captained the winning team, who scored an impressive eight out of 10.

Camp attendee Jack Goode, nine, was full of praise for the event and said: “I have had a great day, learnt lots about cricket and improved my skills.

“I am really looking forward to coming to training over the summer and hope to get into one of the teams.”

The club run regular summer coaching for all youngsters between eight and 16 on Wednesday evenings (6-8pm).

Sessions for women and girls will start on Monday, April 26, running from 4.30pm to 6pm.

All sessions cost £2 and will be run by the club’s ECB coaches.
