BEAMINSTER teenager Arran Hall is set to share the same tennis court as Andy Murray after impressing Pat Cash at the Barclays Ball Kids National Trials.

Hall, a student at Beaminster School, was chosen as one of just 30 ball kids for the ATP World Tour Finals after catching the eyes of the former Wimbledon champion and Mark Petchey in London.

The 16-year-old was among 119 youngsters tested on agility, endurance, ball skills, balance, speed and team work to determine if he had the talent to rub shoulders with the likes of Roger Federer at the O2.

Hall will now undergo training sessions around the country and an intensive five-day course before the prestigious end-of-year competition in November.

And he said: “It was good at the national final in London but hard work. Going to the ATP Finals and getting to see the best players in the world will be a great experience.

“I think I will be nervous at first but I will learn to deal with it. Andy Roddick is my favourite player because not only is he a great player, he also never gives up, so it would be great to see him.”

The nationwide Barclays Ball Kids search began last November, with Hall – who plays at Bridport Tennis Club – qualifying for the final at the City Academy in Bristol.

And Cash, who along with Petchey helped select the lucky winners, believes Hall fully deserved his opportunity to get up close to Federer and co.

“There were some really talented kids on show so it was a difficult job to have to pick the winners,” said the Australian, who claimed the Wimbledon men’s title in 1987.

“But Arran was very impressive. It is a fantastic opportunity for the winners to go down to the O2 and get to experience what will be a great week for them all.”
