WEYMOUTH’S first taste of ultimate frisbee was so well received that sessions could be set up for those who would like to have a go themselves.

The Mixed UK Tour was in town at the weekend with some of the world’s best ultimate frisbee competitors on show.

Magic Toast won the competition, defeating Brighton Ultimate in a hard-fought final, in front of a large gathering of spectators throughout the weekend.

“It was brilliant – the absolutely fantastic weekend weather obviously helped too,” said Caroline Smith, manager of Redlands. “We had a lot of people come up just to watch, which was brilliant, and it looks like such a fun game that we are hoping to set up some frisbee sessions to get kids into it.”

Thirty-eight teams, including one from the Netherlands, were involved at Redlands over the weekend, and they could be back again next year, such was the success of the event.

“Hopefully it will be an annual thing,” added Smith. “We are already talking to the chap in charge to see if we can get them back for next year.”
