WILDCATS’ skipper Tom Brown is targeting the Buxton Hitmen for his return from a broken ankle.
The 25-year-old sustained the injury 10 days ago during the last heat of Weymouth’s 56-38 defeat to Bournemouth – prompting the Cats to recall former captain Jon Armstrong from his loan at Dudley.
However, Brown, who today ret-urns to the hospital for a check-up, is hopeful that he will rejoin his team-mates in time for the visit of Buxton on June 4.
He said: “I’m going back to the hospital today to see if the bones are healing okay and then I’m going to see a specialist in Ipswich tomorrow – hopefully that will help do the trick.”
“As soon as it happened I felt a sharp pain run through my ankle and at that point I knew something bad had happened.
“It was only our second meeting but hopefully I’ll be back at the start of June.
“Hopefully the team should be alright, plus there aren’t too many league meetings between now and June.”
The Weyline Wildcats have recorded just one win from four this year but Brown is confident the Radipole Lane outfit will improve as time goes by.
He added: “There’s still more to come from us. Byron Bekker has started the best out of everyone while the reserves are still finding their feet. Having said that, it always takes me a month to get going.”
Weymouth travel to Plymouth on Friday for the first leg of the Devon & Dorset Trophy. The return meeting takes place just 24 hours later at the Wessex Raceway.
