AFTER the second week of the South West Dorset Summer League campaign, the Division Three leaderboard is being carved out by some impressive victories from Toymaster and Bitz & Pieces.

Toymaster stormed to victory in their match against Dorothy Inn, winning by a comfortable 38-13 margin. From the outset, Toymaster took a comfortable lead with some outstanding shooting by Charlotte Newman.

At the other end, Dorothy Inn struggled to find any consistency in their play and continually failed to take advantage of their own centre pass, giving Toymaster a seven goal lead, 11-4, by quarter-time.

In the second quarter, Toymaster’s defensive pairing of Charlotte Parker and Charlie Walkenshaw protected the circle well but found it difficult to compete against the height advantage of Dorothy’s goal- shooter Sam Rees.

Despite this, Toymaster still increased their lead by 14 goals and entered the half-time break with a strong 20-6 lead. Dorothy Inn took advantage of half-time to make some tactical changes, swapping centre Megan Allen into the goal attack position.

Initially this yielded a host of goals, offering a real opportunity for Dorothy to make up some ground. However, it did not take long for Toymaster’s defence of Corrin March and Sain Parsons to adapt their tactics and quickly close down a number of shooting opportunities.

The final quarter saw Toymaster control every aspect of the game, commanding space on the court with ease. Dorothy’s chances were quickly quashed and they only managed to score three goals in the last 15 minutes.

At the final whistle, Toymaster had triumphed by 38-13 and demonstrated a rampant display of strong skills and sheer determination.

The other Division Three game was not quite so straightforward and Bitz & Pieces were pushed all the way, with Piddle B hot on their tail.

Both teams appeared evenly matched with strong ball skills and neat passing. It was Bitz & Pieces who managed to edge ahead with some timely feeds into the shooting circle, resulting in top rate shooting from Emma Conway-Hyde.

Throughout the remainder of the match, Bitz maintained control.

Mainly due to the strength in their mid-court trio of Helen Taylor, Emma Kellaway and Bethany Andrews, who propelled the ball through the attacking zone.

Piddle struggled to counter this attacking force despite the continued efforts of Angela Lindsay and Emma Bowditch in defence.

There were moments of supreme netball by Piddle that resulted in goals being netted by Henni Green and Lorraine Kellaway but the consistency was lacking, with the team unable to sustain their cohesion for the whole hour.

Bitz sealed the victory with an impressive 35-21 win and look set to challenge at the top of the table this season.
