THERE was success for St Andrew’s Primary School and Holy Trinity Primary School in the High Fives League.

The competition has been designed by the South West Dorset Junior League to offer girls and boys the chance to learn more about the game and improve their skills.

So far it is proving extremely popular with the local schools, with nine teams entering the league, which was split into two divisions for the first time in several years.

All the games were highly competitive with only two points separating the top three teams in Division One, which was won by St Andrew’s, closely followed by Wyke Regis Junior School in second, St John’s Primary School in third and Southill Primary School in fourth.

Meanwhile, the Division Two title went the way of Holy Trinity who have been enjoying the High Fives League for a few seasons now.

They finished above runners-up St Augustine’s Primary School, new entrants Chickerell Primary School, who performed superbly to secure third, and Bincombe Valley Primary School, who claimed fourth.

A spokesman said: “High Fives netball is a game where both boys and girls can join in. The players rotate round in different positions so they all get the chance to play as shooters, defence or centre, and it is a lot of fun.

“Some of the girls representing their schools attend coaching sessions, which are held at Budmouth Technology College on Saturday mornings, during term time.

“Years Three through to Six train from 9.30am-10.30am followed by senior school girls, Year Seven through to 10. Any boy or girl is welcome to attend the junior sessions and anyone wishing for more information can contact June on 814472.”

The next High Fives League will be held in September and any school that wishes to take part is also advised to call the number above.
