WEYMOUTH Amateur Boxing Club’s Steve Alker-Hall has been selected for England’s forthcoming international against Wales at Redlands.

A partisan home crowd will no doubt be cheering on their local favourite when 23-year-old Alker-Hall takes to the canvas to represent his country on Saturday, November 20.

It promises to be an evening of high-octane action, with eight international bouts scheduled in total – and there are also two Wey-mouth boxers on the undercard.

Liam Simpson, 14, (20 bouts, 15 wins) will kick off proceedings by locking horns with Liam Lloyd of Allways School of Excellence ABC (15 bouts, 13 wins), before four senior fights take place.

After the interval, 15-year-old Weymouth boxer Toby Osmond (19 bouts, 14 wins) will face off against Alled Cook of Gwynfi ABC (18 bouts, 14 wins), a bout that will be followed by a further four internationals.

Club president David Nelmes congratulated Alker-Hall on his elevation to the national ranks and then looked forward to next month’s Redlands extravaganza.

He said: “This is a great honour for Steve, and for Weymouth Boxing Club. If anybody deserves an England call up, then it is him.

“It is going to be a great night, with national anthems and ring parade. We are very proud of the three Weymouth boys and all will have very hard bouts.

“It has always been a dream to stage top boxing shows for our loyal supporters but putting on these internationals costs a lot of money and we would like to thank our sponsors.

“So I am asking the ABA of England not to price yourselves out of clubs staging these tournaments.”

Weymouth’s Syd Fletcher is to be on the judging panel, and for more information or to purchase tickets, contact Nelmes on 07899 925316.
