WEYMOUTH Rugby Club hosted their annual Primary Schools Tag Rugby Festival at their Monmouth Avenue ground.

More than 150 players attended from 13 schools in Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and Puddletown.

Thirty matches were played over the afternoon by 15 teams competing on five pitches, organised by the rugby club with support from Weymouth College students and Weymouth Community Police.

Organiser Des Quick said: “This event requires a fair bit of hard work to run, but has its reward on the day watching so many boys and girls competing in good spirit.

“This year’s festival involved the greatest number of competitors we have hosted to date and the good weather was a bonus.

“We are very much a community club, this event gives boys and girls a chance to sample rugby and get to know where their local rugby club is located.

“There was some really great rugby being played, both individual and increasingly better team play, as the afternoon went on.

“Our junior section is always on the lookout for new players, so anyone interested in coming along on a Sunday morning to train and play matches can contact me on 779345 or look on our website, which is weymouthrfc.org.uk.”
