WEYMOUTH Tropics star Francis Anyanjo has been selected for the elite South West Area Performance Centre group.

The group includes between 20 and 25 of the most promising players in the under-16 age category, and among the talented crop is Nigerian-born ace Anyanjo.

Weymouth coach Alex Fuhrmann said: “I’m so pleased for Francis and the opportunity he has taken advantage of. With the steps we have taken within the basketball club to deliver quality coaching and competitive competition this highlights the outcomes.

“Francis learned the game from his two older brothers Henry and Pascal with support from St Osmund’s School and Dorchester Basketball Club.

“For the past three seasons he has honed his skills playing for Weymouth at under-14 and under-16 level, the latter when he was 13.

“I’ve had the pleasure of coaching his older brothers and can say that they, along with Dorchester Basketball Club, all deserve credit for helping Francis progress.”

As a member of the South West Area Performance Centre, Anyanjo will have the chance to compete for a spot in the South West team to play in the Inter Region Tournament.

He will also be considered for selection for the New Year and a trip the Lundaspelen tournament in Sweden, and possibly two further competitions in Europe during 2011.
