WEYMOUTH King Tiger’s Mark Holbrook was crowned IKF southern area amateur cruiserweight champion on an action-packed night at Dorchester Town FC’s Prince’s Marquee.

The seasider was up against Weston-super-Mare’s Chike Knapp, hoping to maintain his unbeaten record in front of a full house at Fight Night Three.

And Holbrook did just that, knocking his opponent out in the third round with a devastating knee to the ribs.

The second title bout of the evening saw Wey-mouth’s Mat Hale take on Boscombe’s Jay Franson in a war of attrition.

However, after sustaining heavy shin damage in the third round, Hale was unable to continue, thus handing Franson the IKF southern area professional belt.

King Tiger’s British champions – Lee Lucas and Jo Edwards – were also action and both men underlined their status with dominant victories.

Lucas went toe-to-toe with John Smith from Chard in only his second bout under full-contact kickboxing rules and despite suffering a flash knockdown, Lucas returned to his feet to twice drop his opponent and score a first-round knockout.

Edwards meanwhile, registered a comfortable points decision over old rival Trevor Soko from Bournemouth.

His bout was followed by Dorchester Kickboxing Club’s Peter Kosnar scoring three knockdowns in a confident win against Simon Whiting.

The opening bout of the night saw 10-year-old Billy Doonan of Weymouth bag his second win at the venue over Southampton’s Mark Kauder, while immediately after, Rachel Webb from the King Tiger club won a split decision against Dorchester’s Georgie Rice in the area’s first ever all-girl fight.

King Tiger’s ‘Sugar’ Jay Robinson marked his first senior bout with victory over Weston’s Dan Gilford in the first round before super heavyweights Lee Grinrod (Weymouth) and Mat Halsworth (Weston) could not be separated.

Last but not least, Dorchester’s Lee Horne earned a majority decision against another Weston opponent in the form of Mike Powell.

After the show, promoter Keith Adams said: “It was a great night for the local clubs and our next show will be even bigger when we’ll be bringing over some foreign opposition for the more experienced fighters.

“Dorchester football club have been fantastic to us in helping with theses shows and it’ll be a real shame if the marquee goes.”
