SHANE Sheridan netted a superb second-half hat-trick as Britannia boosted their Weymouth Sunday League Premiership title-winning credentials by ending the unbeaten record of reigning champions Rodwell at the Piggery.

Darren Samways fired Rodwell into an early lead after being found unmarked at a corner but after a rusty start, following a three-week lay-off, the Brit soon began to find their feet with Liam Gould striking a post and Bryn Lewis having an effort ruled out for offside.

An equaliser looked on the cards but it did not arrive until the hour mark when Sheridan latched on to a clearance by keeper Martin Rutland and tucked the ball home in trademark fashion.

Rodwell were finding it hard to contain the Brit forward and just seven minutes later he found the net again with a tight-angled shot, following a virtuoso run.

The title-holders were now well and truly rattled and just moments later Sheridan bagged a third with a spectacular volley, following Gould’s accurate cut back from the byline.

It appeared the result had been settled but the Rodwell then responded with a speculative effort from distance, which sailed over the back-pedalling Rutland before finding the top corner of the net.

That set up a grandstand finish but it was the Brit that went closest to scoring again when Stu Burley was denied by an outstanding finger-tip save.

Rendezvous continue to set the pace at the top following an impressive 6-0 drubbing of Tuatara.

The table-toppers raced out of the traps and after a couple of lightning breaks, one of which ended with Chris Skinner screwing wide when one-on-one, Carl McClements picked up possession in the centre circle, waltzed past three challenges and set Cris Pavey free on the right.

He found Mike Stone who unleashed a thunderbolt grass-cutter finish inside the near post.

A Pavey header was then chalked off for offside before ’vous doubled their lead when a raking cross-field pass from Steve Lambert found Stone and his effort, which initially struck the far post, rebounded off an unfortunate Simon Meadows and into the T-Bar net.

Skinner tapped home number three while at the other end, opportunities were surprisingly spurned by the normally lethal Tom Grattidge and Charlie Kenderdine.

Rendezvous took full advantage as Skinner set up Pavey for 4-0 before Stone tucked home the loose ball after Pavey’s chip came back off the bar.

T-Bar keeper Pete Cowne denied Pavey with a smart stop only to see Lambert follow up and complete the scoring.

Weyline FC returned to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Snookes at the Marsh.

Reece Boyt put Snookes ahead in the latter stages of the first half before debutant Adam Schofield came off the bench and had a hand in Weyline’s equaliser after the break, which saw the midfielder release Dan McDonald, whose cross was fired home by Chris Heward.

A poor clearance from Snookes’ keeper Mark Cottingham then led to McDonald making it 2-1 and Weyline eventually went on to get a third through Danny Andrews.

However, Snookes were not ready to throw the towel in just yet and when Nigel Evans upended Sean Gulliver in the box with six minutes remaining, Les Lewis cut the deficit to one by sending Anthony Luque the wrong way with the resulting spot-kick.

Snookes then pushed on in search of an equaliser but Weyline held on to move up to fifth in the table.

Meanwhile, in the Championship, Quayside appear to have put their inconsistent start to the campaign behind them after claiming another fine victory against the Rock.

Following on from the previous week’s win over Broadmayne, Bobby Darch’s men enjoyed a positive first half, which saw Paul Cole put them in front at the break.

The Rock then pulled one back close to the hour mark before a header from Adam Anstey and an own goal handed Quayside a deserved 3-1 win.

FC John Gregory are also riding high in the division after beating the Dolphin 7-3 to move within three points of the summit.

A brace from Liam Puckett and strikes from Neil Robinson, Lee Rockingham, Dan McGarrigal, Dan Pickering and Steve Coles did the damage for the Southill outfit, who will face league leaders the Alex this coming Sunday at Redlands.

The contest between SAS and the Old Ship ended honours even following an eight-goal thriller at the Marsh.

SAS, who lost keeper Guy Paddock to injury during the clash, fought back from 4-2 down to grab a share of the spoils with Charlie May completing his brace before Ross Walker equalised late on. Rob Golsby got SAS’s other goal.
