TWO-TIME PGA Cup player Jon Bevan will join forces with two of the country’s in-form players as England bid to secure the PGAs of Europe International Team Champ-ionship title in Portugal this month.
Bevan (Wessex Golf Centre) will be making his debut in the 72-hole championship as will fellow team members John Wells (Cherry Burton) and David Shacklady (Moss-ock Hall).
Despite being ITC rookies, all three bring a wealth of experience to the championship, which is being played over the Ocean Course at Vale de Lobo in Portugal from November 28 to December 1.
Bevan, who is a consistent performer in the West Region, has featured in the last two PGA Cup teams and can also call on three consecutive appearances at the Open Championship from 2005.
The tournament, which has a 35,000 Euros prize fund, has a field of 26 teams including defending champions Wales, Scotland – the most successful side in the tournament’s history with six victories – and Ireland.
Other teams competing, which sees the best two individual scores from each round count towards the team score, include Austria, France, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Greece, Croatia, Ice-land, Holland, Luxembourg, the Scandinavian nations plus teams from South Africa and the UAE.
This year’s event has moved along the Iberian Peninsula having secured sponsorship from the Associacao Turismo do Algarve.
