BOURNEMOUTH III 17

WEYMOUTH 47

JULIAN Quick ran in four tries as Weymouth returned to winning ways in Dorset & Wilts One South in emphatic fashion.

The Seasiders, who entered the match on the back of successive defeats, had fallen behind at Bournemouth Thirds, after starting the match with just 14 men, but turned on the style to run out convincing winners.

Quick was the main beneficiary but there were also tries for Andy Wood, Ryan Lewendon and first-team debutant Tom Bell, who earned a rave review from head coach Paul Harding despite getting lost en route to the game.

The Weymouth chief, who also saw Tim Peplow kick six conversions, said: “Tom is a quality player and we’ve been wanting to move him up to the first team for a while.

“He scored a try on Saturday and I was very pleased with him, he’s a real find.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s victory, which moves the Seasiders into fifth spot, Harding added: “We played a lot better this week and it was a decent performance. We were back to something like full strength and if we can keep players fit and choose from the main core of our squad then we will be fine.

“Bournemouth were a reasonable side, they were very competitive up front but we were much the better side and player for player we had the edge.

“We didn’t actually make a great start because Tom got lost and we played the first five minutes with 14 men.

“We did have replacements but we knew we would only be a man down for a short while because Tom arrived just as we kicked off.

“We went 5-0 down but at half-time we were 14-5 up. In the second half we carried on in the same vein and got to 47-5 ahead before we switched off for the last five minutes and let a couple of silly tries slip, which took the gloss off it a little bit.

“But all in all it was a comfortable win.”

The Seasiders will be aiming for back-to-back wins when they host Westbury this Saturday.
