STEVE Reynolds hopes to convince Chris Sweetser-Hawkes to stay at the club after Dorset Senior League rivals Chickerell United Reserves put in a seven-day approach for the striker.

Sweetser-Hawkes has had very limited game time so far this campaign but with Darren Samways now unlikely to feature for much of the season, Upwey & Broadwey are keener than ever to retain his services.

Boss Reynolds said: “I’m not sure if Chris will go. Due to injury and other commitments, he has not really made himself available enough this season.

“Last week would have been a perfect opportunity for him but he said he was not fit. However, he is available tomorrow and we certainly do not want to lose him.

“It looks like we’ve already lost Darren because he’s taken a job in the Midlands, which is a huge blow.”

Upwey welcome back Richard Frost, Ben Coltart, Steve Coombs and Jason Pearce for tomorrow’s Dorset Senior Trophy replay against Division One’s Poundbury Rovers at the Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre (1.45pm).

Reynolds’ men were severely depleted in last week’s 2-2 draw but the wary boss is certainly not counting his chickens that a stronger squad will guarantee a comfortable victory.

He said: “Poundbury play better football than half the sides we play every week in the Senior League so we will have to be mindful of them.”

Ty Young (groin), Ben Porteous (hamstring), and Omar Djeebet are also expected to miss out for Upwey, while Phil Anderson and Pete Jarvis are doubts due to work commitments.

Steve Alcock has called for “more of the same” from Weymouth Sports tomorrow when they look to secure back-to-back home victories against third-bottom Poole Borough Reserves in the Dorset Senior League (2pm).

Sports ended a run of three successive league defeats at Weymouth College last weekend by beating Wareham Rangers 2-0 and with several players returning to the fold, Alcock is hoping his men can produce a much-improved run.

He said: “We have a few players coming back, which will add competition for places, and if we can put a run of good performances in before the festive period it would be a nice present.”

Despite his renewed optimism, Alcock also remains mindful of complacency. He added: “We have got third-bottom and second-bottom in the next two weeks but we will not take anything for granted. That is something I will be hammering into the players.”

Marc Windust (ankle) and Adam Anstey (unavailable) will both miss out tomorrow for Sports but Chris Wyatt, Josh Evans, Carl Mutch, Gareth Morgan, Stuart Dixon and Dave Wallis are all in line to return. Simon Austin is a doubt due to possible work commitments.
