Weymouth College 77

WOODROFFE SCHOOL 25

DAN Campbell weighed in with 31 points as Weymouth College hammered Woodroffe School.

The hosts bagged their second win in as many games of the new season, boasting a huge 52-point advantage against their Lyme Regis opponents.

After Sam Dodge opened the scoring with a three-pointer, Weymouth never looked back and, with the help of Jack Speary and Gaz Williams, built up a healthy first-quarter lead.

Woodroffe did have moments of good play on their fast break, but the hosts were quick to counter with several steals leading to baskets from Williams and Campbell.

Despite losing Dodge to injury, Wey-mouth, leading 44-15 at the end of the second quarter, still looked best place for victory.

The College made a disjointed start to the third, forcing coach Alex Fuhrmann to call a time-out.

With the boss’ words still ringing in their ears, Weymouth rediscovered their form. As the clock ticked down the home side were well in front and saw Campbell net his sixth three-pointer of the game to cap a fine win.

Fuhrmann said: “The lads linked up well and despite some psychological mistakes they regrouped and found their form.

“We’re in a great position to win the division at the moment but we must make sure we stay focused, no matter who the opponent, so we can be true to our abilities all season.”

Weymouth: Dan Campbell 31, Gaz Williams 27, Jack Speary 9, Sam Dodge 6, Connor Doherty 2, Stuart Purnell, Rob Legg.
