A NEW girls’ football coaching centre will be set up in the New Year when WeySports, in partnership with McDonalds in Weymouth’s town centre, launches its Search for a Star campaign.

The aim of the initiative is to find 48 players who will attend the centre with a view to producing quality players for Weymouth Ladies FC in the future.

The centre will provide coaching for players who wish to develop their technical and tactical knowledge of the game. It will also be vital in identifying young local talent that may wish to progress to compete at South West League Premier Division level or above.

WeySports also welcomes each player’s wish to continue playing for any club or school team they are already involved in.

As well as intensive weekly coaching sessions, there will also be regular presentations by experts on a number of subjects, including fitness, nutrition, diet and treatment and prevention of injuries.

Sixteen players will be selected at each age group (5-7 years, 8-10 years, 11-14 years) and the centre will be run by Weymouth Ladies’ manager Tim Davis, assisted by players and guest coaches.

Davis said: “For Weymouth Ladies FC to progress we have to start developing our own players and the centre will become an integral part of that process.

“I would like to hear from any player in the Weymouth and Portland area who would like to participate.

“As well as waiting for players to contact me, I will also be inviting several girls that I personally feel would benefit from joining the centre. Finally, I will also be producing leaflets for distribution by local schools.

“In order for the centre to be a success, the players who attend will have to meet a certain level in terms of ability, attitude, fitness and willingness to work hard.”

If you would like your child to apply to join the centre email tim_wfc@hotmail.com or call 07974885259, stating your child’s name, age and contact details.
