STEVE Alcock has demanded his players “buck up” ahead of tomorrow’s Dorset Senior League clash at home to Kingston Lacy (2pm).

The Weymouth Sports’ manager has cut a frustrated figure during his charges’ rollercoaster ride this season and he is urgently seeking an improvement.

Capturing maximum points against fifth-placed Lacy would be a step in the right direction.

And Alcock, whose side’s match against Gillingham Town Reserves last weekend was postponed, said: “Like last season we have been hit and miss – the only consistent thing about us is our inconsistency.

“We lost three games in a row that we should have done much better in, then won twice on the spin before being beaten by Portland United Reserves.

“We have quality but the hunger that needs to go with it seems to be missing. The annoying thing is that the league is so tight and we are bleeding so many points.

“It’s not like we have been playing that badly, we just aren’t winning enough matches.

“We trained on Wednesday night and I hammered them for an hour. I have made sure that they know exactly what I expect of them and that they have got to buck up.”

Alcock was left bitterly disappointed with ninth-placed Sports’ lacklustre performance in their 1-0 defeat by Portland, which he said had left him with “a sour taste in the mouth”.

But he has options available for tomorrow’s Weymouth College tussle with Jason Thoday, Ed Bastick and Carl Mutch all included in the squad.
