RYAN McKechnie is awaiting a scan to determine the full extent of a knee injury, which could rule him out of action for several weeks.

The talented winger, who has made three appearances for the first team this season, initially thought it might be a medial ligament problem but there are fears in the Weymouth camp that it could be a lot worse.

Reserves’ boss Brendon King said: “Ryan has to go for an MRI on his knee as our physio thinks it might be cartilage damage or even anterior cruciate ligament damage.

“All we can do is cross our fingers and hope the news isn’t that bad but it looks like, whatever the outcome, we are likely to be without him for several weeks now, which is a big loss for us.”

King has immediately made a move to add reinforcements to his squad, with ex-Hamworthy United first-team asset Joe Toghill set to complete a switch from Magna Dorset Premier League rivals Poole Bor-ough.

King added: “Joe is a wide player, who is decent on the ball and has good potential.

“We are hoping to add his name to the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Westland Sports (2pm) but that all depends on whether the paperwork is sorted in time.

“Poole have kindly wavered the seven days for him so hopefully it will go through.”

Another piece of good news for the Terras is that striker Mike Rousell has returned to training after two months on the sidelines with a fractured ankle.

King said: “Mike has had the all-clear to go back to full contact training, so he is not far away now, which is great to hear.”

King has branded tomorrow’s trip to Alvington as his side’s toughest test to date and has called upon his young guns to “step up to the plate.”

He added: “Westland Sports are a good unit. They have everything. They have some great individual players, they can mix it physically and they have good technique, so it is going to be a tough test.

“But it is also going to be another great experience for our lads, and it will be up to them to show their worth and produce the goods.”

First-team regular Sam Clarke also could make the trip to Somerset. The centre-back is on the road to full recovery, following a spell out with a back injury.
