Ian Hutchinson is facing a potential striker crisis ahead of tomorrow’s Zamaretto Premier Division clash against Evesham United at the Bob Lucas Stadium (3pm).

The Weymouth manager is still anxiously waiting for Matthew Wright’s loan extension to be rubberstamped, while Sam Charles is struggling with a hamstring problem and Jamie Beasley is unavailable due to best man duties at a wedding.

Hutchinson told Echosport: “From my point of view and Darrell Clarke’s at Salisbury City, the loan extension for Matthew Wright has been agreed but we are still waiting for the paperwork to go through.

“If it isn’t finalised in time then it will leave us a little light on options up front. Sam is still having treatment on his hamstring while Jamie is unavailable, which is a shame, as there might have been a chance there for him tomorrow.

“It is what it is though, and all we can do now is just wait and see what happens.”

If all three of those players are ruled out, Hutchinson will have just one striker available in top-scorer Warren Byerley, and may have to call up a wildcard from the second string or push Lewis Whyton up front from centre-back where he has impressed in the last three games.

In regards to other team news, the Terras’ boss added: “Matteo King has recovered from a groin strain, while Sam Clarke is coming back to fitness but probably needs a game in the reserves.”

Weymouth remain eight points adrift of safety and with four challenging games coming up, which include clashes against high-fliers Cambridge City and Truro City, it would appear nothing less than a win will do against third-bottom Evesham.

Hutchinson said: “We beat them at their place earlier in the season so this will be our first chance of a double.

“However, we will have to start a lot better than we did against Banbury last week if we are to stand any chance of achieving that.”

Ollie Tribe, who was sent off against Banbury for deliberate handball, will serve his one-match ban on December 18 when he will miss the trip to Brackley Town.

* UPDATE: Ian Hutchinson has confirmed the loan deal for Wright has moved a step closer to completion and he expects it to be finalised today.
