RICO Wilson could be handed only his second start of the season tomorrow as Dorchester Town take on St Albans City in the first round of the FA Trophy (3pm).

The 19-year-old has made just three appearances in all competitions but may get the nod with fellow forward Jamie Mudge cup-tied – following his previous involvement with Bideford – for the Avenue Stadium clash.

If selected, Wilson will be tasked with helping to fire the Magpies into round two, banking a cool £5,000 in the process.

Assistant-manager Phil Simkin, who may also explore the possibility of pushing midfielder James Coutts into a more attacking role, said: “Unfortun-ately, Jamie Mudge is cup-tied but although our squad isn’t that big, it’s very strong.

“We won’t look to change our system so it might be that Rico is given a start.

“James Coutts comes to mind as well as he has great technical ability. He is a possibility but we will be looking at one or two options in training.”

Three weeks ago, Dorchester saw off Weston-super-Mare to reach this stage of the competition.

Incidentally, the 3-1 win at the Woodspring Stadium was the Magpies’ last outing following four successive postponements due to frozen pitches.

Despite the delay, Simkin is confident there will be no hangover when his men finally return to action.

He added: “We’ll be flying in the first 10 minutes and we’ll be out of the blocks early. The lads have trained really well and are itching to get going.

“They all know the importance of the game, not just for the club but also for themselves. Once you get through the first two or three rounds you’re not that far away and if you can get a bit of luck with the draw, who knows what can happen?

“One good thing to come out of all the postponements is that people who had minor strains have now fully recovered. Neil Martin had been struggling with his hamstring while Ryan Moss had a slight groin problem.”

The rock-bottom Saints, who lie eight places below Dorchester in Blue Square Bet South, have also suffered a host of cancellations, including last week’s league encounter with the county town side at Clarence Park.

Defender Jamie Frampton is also cup-tied.
