DORSET – the 2009 national champions – are one step away from their second appearance in the final of the English Indoor BA under-25 double-rink final.

Frank Gwatkin’s young warriors reached the semi-final of this season’s competition with a thumping 44-26 victory against Somerset.

They now face Surrey at Winchester on Sunday, December 19, with the winners going through to the final at Northampton in February.

Dorset’s travelling rink of Dolphin threesome Chris Lawrence, brother Phil Lawrence, fit-again Ben Paulley and Moonfleet skip Martin Puckett stole the show with a superb 22-15 victory at Ilminster against Som-erset’s star rink skipped by senior international Louis Ridout.

Puckett’s men sprinted 10-1 ahead at five ends and were 15-4 clear by the 10th with some immaculate play that rattled Ridout.

At Dorchester Chris Cook (Moonfleet) and Dorchester trio Dean Curtis, Jamie Lockwood and Nick Voss trailed 6-2 before launching a burst to lead 14-7 after 12 ends which seemed to knock the stuffing out of Somerset. Voss went on to win 22-11.
