WEYMOUTH Ladies face the biggest match of their short history tomorrow when they lock horns with Newquay in the first round proper of the FA Women’s Cup (1pm).

The Terras, sponsored by WeySports, have upset all the odds to reach this stage and are the lowest ranked team remaining in the competition.

Although they have a monumental task to confound the form guide, the FA Cup is littered with giant-killings and Weymouth enter the Cornwall tie with absolutely no pressure on them.

Skipper Jess Turk said: “It is a fantastic achievement and we are glad to have got this far. We know that this will be a really difficult match but we have nothing to lose.

“We have gone into every game so far thinking we can win and this is the same. It will be a wonderful experience but we are not going down there to make up the numbers, we want to keep going as long as possible.

“We have belief and know we can play well as a team. The FA Cup is a great competition to be involved in and it would be amazing to see fans coming down to give us support.”

South West Combination outfit New-quay, who are more akin to battling the likes of Southampton and Swindon Town, boast a wealth of experience and quality.

The Terras, meanwhile, who have already knocked out Winscombe, Frome Town and Stoke Lane Athletic, will feature 13 teenagers and no fewer than seven 16-year-olds in their squad.

Given that they are huge underdogs, Weymouth have been utilising the facilities at Redlands and working hard on enhancing their football skills and general fitness.

They have also received a boost thanks to the generosity of Bluebird Coaches, which has provided a 53-seat executiver so the girls can travel in style.

Ladies’ boss Tim Davis added: “New-quay are by far and away the best team any of my girls have played against and no matter what happens the match will be a fantastic experience for them.

“They have done the town proud over the past five seasons and we have been totally self-financing during this period.

“All I hope is that they give 110 per cent and do not show Newquay too much respect because, like when you play against any quality opposition, stand off them and they will take you apart.

“It would be great if we could take a full coach of supporters with us to cheer the girls on.”

To book a seat on the coach, which leaves Redlands at 8am, contact Davis on 07974885259. Cost is £5 per person.
