FORMER Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright will make a guest appearance at a Half-Term Soccer School on Portland on Thursday, February 24.

The two-day school, which is being run by ex-Weymouth and Dorchester Town skipper Alex Browne, is open to children aged five to 14 with the £5 a day charge going to a chosen local charity.

Browne, who works at the YOI on the island and recently linked up with Wright for the Sky One series Football Behind Bars, said: “It is great to have Ian coming down again and I am sure many local youngsters would like to meet him.

“He will be coming down on Thursday to present some certificates and the more children we get there the merrier.

“The sessions, which I will oversee, will be held in the Stadium Bowl on Thursday and Friday from 10am to 3pm, and I will be bringing a couple of lads along with me who have just completed their level one badges and will be coaching kids from the local schools.

“We have not chosen the charity the proceeds will go to yet but it will be a local one and the sessions will all be about fun and enjoyment rather than anything too technical.

“All the youngsters have to bring with them on the day is their kit and a packed lunch. Drinks will be provided.”
