JAMIE Beasley has revealed that even he has been surprised by his meteoric rise into the Weymouth first team.

The talented forward was turning out for Dorset League Division One side Dorchester Borough back in October but over the last four months he has climbed six rungs on the football ladder to suddenly become one of the club’s hottest prospects.

And after netting in last Saturday’s 2-0 win over high-flying Salisbury City, the man with the sweet left foot is adamant the Terras can continue their recent good form and retain their Zamaretto Premier Division status.

Since the arrival of boss Martyn Rogers, the club have won three of their last four games with the only blip coming in the form of a shock 5-0 defeat at Oxford City.

That upturn in fortunes saw the Radipole Lane outfit move out of the relegation zone for the first time this season at the weekend but Beasley admits a lot more work needs to be done before his side can afford to breathe any easier.

Beasley said: “This has been a big step for me. I had trials at Yeovil Town when I was younger but since then I have just been playing with my mates really so to get this opportunity now is just fantastic.

“Brendon King was the one who got me to come down and to be honest I thought I would just play for the reserves for the rest of the season with maybe a view to progressing into the first-team squad next year.

“However, now I am in there, I just want to try and keep my place. I have certainly become much more confident playing with better players and to have the opportunity to learn from the likes of Warren Byerley and Matt Groves is great.

“I knew Warren before I even came to the club and he has been a revelation this season and has helped me a lot.

“What we need to do now though as a team is try and take the performances we put in against Halesowen Town and Salisbury on the road with us.

“Against Salisbury, we showed tremendous passion, got in their faces, and did not give them time on the ball and we need to start producing that on a consistent basis.

“If we are able to do that then I am confident we can stay up.”

Beasley has also attributed his progression to the fantastic support he has received from the club’s fans.

He added: “They have really got behind me and encouraged me, and that helps to keep me going. I am still learning but everything seems to be going well and hopefully that will continue.”

Rogers, whose side travel to Bedford Town this Saturday, is hoping to sign Groves on a permanent deal this week following the expiration of his loan.

He also remains in the hunt for Newport County defender Andrew Hughes.
