HAROLD Doonan’s consortium will begin their search for a new home for the Wildcats in the coming weeks.

Attempts to secure a new lease for the Wessex Raceway were brought to an end last week when Wessex Delivery Partnership finally broke their silence.

The landowners issued a statement to Echosport, insisting there are no plans at present to “lease out the Wessex track for motorsport activities”.

That means a new site must be found in order to avoid the threat of extinction.

Speaking on behalf of the consortium, former Wildcats’ press officer Julie Martin said: “We’re going to start looking for somewhere else and see where we can go from there.

“It won’t be easy and it’s going to be a case of looking around to see if anywhere is available.

“We’ve spoken to the council (West Dorset District Council) about it and they said to come back to them if we can find somewhere that’s worth pursuing.”

Asked about WDP’s announcement, Martin added: “We still haven’t had any mail from them about it, which is a bit off. I don’t know many companies that can turn down income in the current climate. Perhaps they have other plans – I don’t know.”
