Dorchester are determined to put a turbulent week behind them with victory over Bromley at the Avenue Stadium.

The last seven days have seen striker Rico Wilson jailed for seven months for a string of offences and three players, plus boss Ashley Vickers, barred from 14 Dorchester pubs.

Wilson has since been sacked by the club but with the latter incident nothing more than “a storm in a teacup,” the county town side are desperate to respond in the best possible manner – collecting three points tomorrow afternoon (3pm).

A defiant Vickers said: “Nobody is prouder to manage a football club than I am. It’s a huge honour for me and a privilege to manage this group of players.

“In turn, they are all privileged to wear the shirt.

“To be thought of in any bad light hurts them and myself deeply. Therefore we will be giving our all, as usual, tomorrow and we can’t wait for the game to come around.

“We are deeply hurt by what has happened this week and the only way to answer that is by showing people how much it means to us and the pride we feel for the club and the town as a whole. Hopefully we’ll give the fans the result they deserve.”

Bromley earned a 2-1 victory over the Magpies on the opening day of the season, and the outcome of that fixture still riles with the county town chief.

He added: “They are a good side and they pay a lot of money but we have proved on numerous occasions that we are a match for anyone.

“We should have beaten them at their place but that has been the story of our season. But we’re four games unbeaten now and the trend is upwards, hopefully we can carry that on tomorrow.

“We are down to the bare bones but the lads keep stepping up to the plate and producing good performances.”

Jamie Gleeson (knee) is expected to be sidelined once more but there is hope that flying winger Nick Crittenden (hamstring) can take a place on the bench.

Under-18 starlet Lee White could also be named among the substitutes for the second week running while defender Doug Bergqvist makes his home debut.

Vickers said: “Critts is making a good recovery but Glees isn’t quite fit enough yet.

“Lee might be involved again, we’ll have to see. He was on the bench last weekend and was a credit to the under-18s.

“Just talking to the lad you can tell he really wants to do well.”

Meanwhile, striker Matt Groves has joined rivals Weymouth on a permanent basis.
