GEORGE Rolls has warned that “unrealistic demands” will have to be dropped if next Thursday’s showdown with key figures at the club is to herald a way forward.

The outspoken chairman will come face to face with many of his detractors at the meeting and has admitted it will turn out to be “a waste of time” if they continue their quest to try and get him to hand over a proportion of his majority shareholding.

The process in which Rolls acquired his stake from Make It So Ltd has been branded a share grab by certain supporters but the Terras’ chief has always refuted that suggestion and recently signed a non-profit document in a bid to put minds at ease.

However, that still has not satisfied a certain section of fans who are now calling for Rolls to only accept shares to the value of the investment he has made in the club to date, while putting the remainder in an independent trust.

The trust’s documentation would then be set up to ensure its block holding is never used politically, allowing Rolls to maintain control.

However, the Cambridge-based businessman, who has always maintained that shares are for sale as long as he keeps a majority stake, believes that proposal is an unreasonable request.

The Weymouth FC Supporters Association called for the meeting to take place late Wednesday night following Rolls’ admission earlier in the week that a groundshare with local rivals Dorchester Town could be the only way for the club to survive.

It will take place at the Bob Lucas Stadium prior to the encounter with Didcot Town, but contrary to reports, the confidence vote on Rolls’ future, which has been scheduled for that night, could still take place.

Rolls, who ultimately saved the club from extinction when he successfully oversaw a Company Voluntary Arr-angement last year, told Echosport: “We will have the meeting and then see what happens, but the scheduled vote could still happen.

“I am quite happy to speak to anyone interested in helping the club but if people keep coming up with unrealistic demands then not much of a discussion will take place.

“Some people need to get real and understand that if I resign, someone would have to find £25,000 just to keep the club going until the end of the season.

“I welcome people getting involved and if they wanted me to take a backseat I would, as long as it was in the best interests of the club.

“From day one my aim was to help the club survive and I think I have shown that in the backing I have given with the new manager and players we have brought in over the past month.”

Rolls has also invited Echosport to attend the meeting, insisting: “I am sure many readers are worried about the current situation.”

When asked whether there have been any further developments on the possibility of playing at the Avenue Stadium, Rolls added: “I have been in dialogue with Dorchester chairman Shaun Hearn and I will sit down with him again next week.

“But the simple fact of the matter is that unless more fans get behind the club we will not be able to remain at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

“I know people keep saying that this is all part of some masterplan and that I am in it for this and that but all I am being is open and honest, and telling people how it is.

“We will not have the same team in a month or two if the current situation continues.”

The Terras travel to Bedford Town tomorrow (3pm) in the Zamaretto Premier Division hoping to move further away from the relegation zone.

Martyn Rogers’ side currently sit fourth-bottom on goal difference and should have a full complement of players for the trip with Charlie Clough (hamstring), Scott Rogers (back) and Warren Byerley (foot) all expected to overcome their respective niggles in time to feature.

* Matt Groves has agreed non-contract terms with the Terras until the end of the season after leaving Dorchester Town, while any prospective move for Newport County defender Andrew Hughes is likely to be put on hold now until next week.
