THE Weymouth Waves have plenty to cheer about – and head coach Natasha Wood is calling on potential recruits to join their ranks.

The cheerleading group was only formed in November by Wood and Felicity Ayles, but has already built a core foundation.

However, the former is keen to attract new members, both male and female, to their weekly training sessions on a Tuesday night (8-9pm).

She said: “We will be stunting, dancing, cheering, chanting and tumbling. It doesn’t matter if people haven’t done anything like this before as we will teach them everything they need to know. If they have done anything along these lines then it’s a bonus.

“Cheerleading is a growing sport in the UK. It’s fun, energetic and all you need is enthusiasm for the sport.

“I’ve been doing it since 1998 and absolutely love it. I’ve participated at different levels and with different squads.

“I’ve seen individuals grow in confidence and develop their teamwork skills, co-ordination and fitness levels, and it’s also somewhere to meet new friends and try something different to keep fit.

“With almost 33 years of dance and cheer experience between us, we want to put together a routine worthy of a first-place trophy and hopefully go to our first competition in February 2012 in Loughborough.

“In the meantime, we will do demonstrations around the local area.”

Anyone aged 15 or over that is interested in joining the squad, or anyone who may want to sponsor the club or book the Waves for a performance, can contact Wood on 07760426896 for more details.
