South & West Dorset League Division One

CASY COMETS 25 WATERSIDE 58

TALENTED Waterside proved too strong for Casy Comets at the start of the summer season.

Casy, with several new signings in their side, started promisingly with excellent court play from both centres – Kirsty Winning and Paula Isaac – but it was Waterside who held the lead 15-9 after the first quarter.

Waterside increased their pace during the next two quarters, and ensured that every accurate pass resulted in a goal from the on-form shooters.

A fast-paced game continued to flow, proving why both teams deserve their places in the top division, however, it was Waterside who came out on top.

Division Two

BRICKCRAFT 47 BOHO B 46

NEWLY-PROMOTED Brickcraft edged out Boho to make a winning start to their campaign.

Boho B were boosted by the agility of shooting duo Danni Milward and Gabbi Nardiello and the game was fairly contested throughout, with an exciting first half ending all square at 23-23.

A couple of injuries during the second period led to some team changes and some not so sleak netball, however, despite Brickcraft’s WD Sarah Valance’s superb centre court defending, Boho B went into the final quarter leading 37-33.

The last period showed both teams digging deep, with accurate passing, however it was Brickcraft who went away elated with five points.

Division Three

WEYSPORTS 26 MANE RD 16

WEYSPORTS triumphed in the clash of the newcomers.

Mane Rd, representing the under-15s’ section of the Weymouth Junior Club and WeySports, made up of young coaches and sports leaders from a community sports trust.

Excellent shooting from WeySports’ shooters Cristal Butcher and Georgia Allen and Mane’s counterparts Jasmine Franklin and Marnie McCombe ensured a close first quarter, with WeySports in front 7-5.

Both teams had use of named substitutes, and this gave them the ability to make tactical changes, which showed versatility on all accounts.

WeySports’ centre Darcy Belle dominated the centre court, however, her opponent Caitlin Dive showed excellent determination and provided good feeding to her shooters.

It was WeySports who gained the victory in the end though, dominating the final quarter.

Division Three

BITZ N PIECES 38 STICKLANDS 9

GOAL attack Mel Leins was on top form as she guided her side to a comfortable victory.

Bitz dominated the game, with excellent centre court play from Sam Shoe-mark and Kellie Poole and led 15-4 at half-time.

Sticklands did not give up, and their defensive unit of Jane Rooks and Kate Lloyd continued to battle throughout the next half against Bitz’s shooters.

However, it was Bitz who continued to convert their shots, walking away with a comfortable victory.
