MATT Groves believes this afternoon’s trip to Tiverton Town is a do-or-die game for the Terras in terms of their survival hopes.

The experienced forward is champing at the bit ahead of the relegation six-pointer and has called for boss Martyn Rogers not to leave him on the sidelines for a third successive game.

Groves, who had to settle for substitute appearances in the victory at Swindon Supermarine and the 4-1 defeat at Bedford Town, said: “It was very disappointing to be left on the bench particularly after being played on the right of midfield where I have never played before. However, I do not pick the team and hopefully I will be selected to start today.

“If I am then you can rest assured I will go out and give 110 per cent because that is what is going to be needed from everyone in what will no doubt be a blood and thunder game.”

The third-bottom Terras lie two points adrift of safety in the Zamaretto Premier Division and three above Tivvy, who occupy the place below them.

And with just four games left for both teams to save themselves everything will no doubt go on the line at Ladysmead where the Devon outfit have picked up four points from their last two games.

Groves added: “It is a massive game. Not only is it huge for both teams in terms of beating the drop but the connection with Martyn Rogers will make it even bigger.

“Our performances have been up and down recently but if we don’t win tomorrow then I don’t think we will have any hope of staying up at all.

“And if we cannot get up for this game as a team then there is something fundamentally wrong.

“We are going to have to be in their faces from the first minute because believe me this game won’t be about pretty football, it will be about who puts the ball in the right areas the best and works the hardest both in defence and attack.

“It is going to be about doing the horrible things well and that is why we have to make sure we are really up for it from the outset and are ready to fight and scrap for every ball.”

Rogers, who was installed at the helm of the Terras in January, took charge of over 1,000 games during two decades at Tivvy where he will always be viewed as a legend after guiding the club to two FA Vase successes and two promotions.

The Weymouth boss welcomes back Ben Gerring from suspension today as he looks for a big response from his men following their midweek debacle at the New Eyrie.

Mike Fowler and Jamie Mudge picked up ankle knocks at Bedford but both men should be fit for selection. Ben Mammola will turn out for Willand Rovers.
