MICHAEL Watson is itching to make his return to the greens at today’s Minchin-hampton Pro-Am.

After a long winter’s break, the Wes-sex Golf Centre pro is back in action this morning, hoping to get the new campaign off to a flyer in Gloucestershire.

Watson said: “We’ve just been waiting for everything to get going. I’ve got a Pro-Am today which is nice and then my first Order of Merit towards the end of the month. I’m looking forward to getting started.

“I’m feeling positive, I just want to get out and test out my swing. It feels like it’s coming back into place but the true test is when you’re out on the course.”

A stellar end to the 2009 season saw the Weymouth golfer earn entry into four of the European Tour’s biggest tournaments – the BMW PGA Championship, Scottish Open, Wales Open and European Open – the following year.

And after gaining a taste of the big time, Watson is keen to replicate that success by reaching the PGA West Region Order of Merit play-offs once again.

In order to achieve his goal, Watson may be forced to miss out on qualifying for this year’s Open Championship.

He added: “Qualifying clashes with an Order of Merit event and I really want to get back into the play-offs for that, so I haven’t decided what I’ll do. They shouldn’t clash so it’s a pain when they do.”
