SHERBORNE TOWN RES 0 WEYMOUTH RES 1 MARK Carter is hoping to attract more up-and-coming talent to the Bob Lucas Stadium this summer after the reserves received the green light for next season from the Weymouth FC board.

Fears that the second-string could be cut for financial reasons were finally put to bed by an announcement at last Tuesday’s fans’ forum and boss Carter has already started identifying potential targets ahead of the 2011-12 campaign.

He said: “The fact the board has decided to keep the reserves is a big boost for the lads and I am hopeful most of them will stay.

“I am also hoping to attract some more players from around the Dorset Premier League to the club with a view to developing them for the first team.

“Players only have to look at the amount of lads we have had go up into the first-team squad this season to see they will be given a chance.

“The likes of Jamie Beasley and Ollie Tribe are two prime examples of that and hopefully more will follow.”

A virtuoso goal from Alex Halloran saw the Terras secure runners-up spot in the Magna Dorset Premier League at Sherborne Town Reserves on Thursday night – a feat Carter has hailed as a “great achievement”.

He added: “We have not had a settled side at any stage this season so to finish second is just fantastic and all the boys that have been involved deserve a lot of credit.

“We played really well at Sherborne and dominated the game throughout. The only thing that was missing was that all-important finishing touch in the final third but the rest of our game was excellent.

“Joe Charles was superb at the back, and alongside Lewis Whyton, did not give Sher-borne a sniff all night but to be honest the whole team did well.”

Terras: Weeks, Tribe, Whyton, Charles, Kimber, McKechnie, Toghill, Litherland, Halloran, White (Walker 46), Conning (Winsper 65).
