THE Magpies will keep their feet firmly on the ground according to full-back Kyle Critchell, despite recording their biggest Blue Square Bet South win in nine months.

Following the despair of Saturday’s opening-day defeat at Dover Athletic, 10-man Dorchester Town enjoyed the euphoria of a 4-0 win against Maidenhead United on Tuesday night.

And the margin of victory was the greatest in the league the county town side have experienced since beating Staines by the same scoreline last November.

However, with Eastbourne Borough due to visit the Avenue Stadium this weekend, Critchell, one of Tuesday night’s goalscorers, insists no one is getting carried away.

He said: “We’ve picked up a win and it has given us a boost but we’re not going to get carried away as we’ve got another big game on Saturday.

“I’m not going to get carried away and neither will any of the other boys. Mark Jermyn made a point of saying afterwards that although we won 4-0 we haven’t won the league so we need to put that game to bed.

“We’ll try and do the same things against Eastbourne and hopefully we’ll turn them over.”

After waiting several years for his first senior goal – a winning strike against Braintree Town last October – the 24-year-old defender is becoming somewhat of a prolific figure with four strikes to date.

Critchell added: “I think it’s more to do with your mindset. I go up and I actually believe I can score now, which is something Ashley Vickers and Andy Harris have drilled into me, and long may it continue.

“Hopefully I can get five or six goals this year and really help the lads out.

“I got three last season, two in pre-season and one on Tuesday so I’m hoping I can grab a few goals, but more importantly it’s about making sure we get the win as all I care about is whether we win or not.

“We needed that win after Saturday because it was a big dent and everyone felt it. It was the first game of the season and I don’t care what anybody says, it’s a really important game as it gives you momentum.

“I’d never seen two sides create so much on Saturday, it could have been a cricket score. It was just nice for us to score on Tuesday. Three of the goals came from set-pieces so the hard work on the training pitch is paying off.”
