JAKE Smeeton could return to the Magpies’ squad for this afternoon’s FA Cup second qualifying round clash against Weston-Super-Mare at the Avenue Stadium.

The 23-year-old defender has been on loan at Poole Town for the past month but it appears Dorchester Town boss Ashley Vickers could be ready to thrust him back into first-team action.

He told Echosport: “Jake has been recalled and is available to go into the squad for this afternoon’s game should we require him.

“I will certainly be speaking with him but his partner has just had a baby so we shall have to wait and see.

“Jake is a Trojan and is always up for the battle so I would not have any concerns about including him at all.”

Meanwhile, Weymouth loanee Nick Jordan looks certain to miss out and question marks also remain over the fitness of Ashley Nicholls.

Vickers added: “Nick is still struggling with a bad back after falling off his bike last week.

“He has trained his hardest to get as fit as possible but Alan Walker-Harris has been doing really well of late so we certainly have no worries there.

“Ashley also has a few aches and pains, and is struggling a bit, so a lot of these decisions will have to be left to the last minute.”

Admission to today’s crunch clash, which will see the winners pocket £4,500, is £10 (stand) or £9 for adults (terrace), £6.50 (stand) or £5.50 (terrace) for concessions, and £2 for under-16s.
