CHICKERELL UTD 2 SWANAGE T&H 4

MAURICE Welch declared “all good things come to an end” after Swanage Town & Herston brought the curtain down on Chickerell United’s eight-match winning run.

The Chickens were chasing a ninth win on the spin in all competitions but the sixth-placed Swans refused to oblige and instead inflicted a first defeat in two months.

United boss Maurice Welch, who saw Zach Falcus bag both of his side’s goals, said: “All good things come to an end and 4-2 was about right as they deserved it. It was not the best game of football.

“They were very direct and we could not deal with the ball over the top – they kept playing it and it worked almost every time.

“They scored the first goal after 30 minutes following a long ball over the top and it was 2-0 right on half-time, which was the nail in the coffin.

“We managed to get one back early in the second half with Zach scoring direct from a corner. I thought we were back in it but we shot ourselves in the foot.

“Dan Welch thought a long ball would reach Ash Weeks in goal but it was never going to reach him and their guy nipped in to score.

“They had two or three guys queuing up to score the fourth, which also came from a ball over the top, before Zach found the top corner from a free-kick.

“That gave us some hope but the game petered out and we did not deserve to get anything from the game.

“We’ve been on a good run so I can’t complain much. We did create a few chances and Zach was superb coming into the side.

“Tom Peck also had another good game so it’s not all bad.”
