BRENDON King thought Saturday’s home defeat against Redditch United had been on the cards for a while.

Despite seeing his side score two late goals, the Weymouth boss was in no mood to pull any punches in his post-match Press conference where he claimed the final scoreline had flattered his below-par side.

King told Echosport: “We were flat throughout and it was just not good enough.

“We looked lethargic and leggy, and were second best all over the field.

“It is a result that has been coming. Somewhere along the line we have stopped doing the good things that have seen us go on a fine run of late. “To a certain degree we got away with it against Hemel Hempstead and Swindon Supermarine but on this occasion we got what we deserved.

“We cannot just turn up expecting to win matches. We need all 11 out there at the top of their games and we were nowhere near that.

“In fact, had we got something out of it in the end it would have been a total injustice.

“I thought 3-2 flattered us and if we turn up in the same manner next Saturday against Havant & Waterlooville in the FA Trophy it will be six or seven it is as simple as that.”

Player/assistant-manager Matt Groves dropped to the bench for the game due to a stomach injury but should be fine for next weekend.

King, whose side have fallen two places to 15th, added: “Groover has been suffering with a slight pull in his stomach and we did not want him to do any further damage.

“He was named amongst the substitutes but once we went 3-0 down I felt there was no point in risking him.

“We went with something different with Jamie Beasley’s pace alongside Warren but we never got a foothold in the game.

“All we can do now is put it down to a bad day at the office and make sure we come back fighting next Saturday.”
