SHERBORNE TOWN RESERVES 0

Chickerell UNITED 7

THE Chickens were in free-scoring mood as they battered basement boys Sherborne Town Reserves 7-0 at Raleigh Grove.

Warren White volleyed in a free-kick from Steve Welch before Josh Why chipped the keeper to double the lead before the break.

The visitors then stepped it up a gear at the start of the second half with three goals in 12 minutes.

Defender Scott Henley added two, including a header and a wonderful virtuoso effort that included one-twos with White and Nick Etherington, before the latter got his first moments later.

Ben Skelton then added a sixth before Etherington completed the rout with seven minutes remaining.

Chickerell United boss Maurice Welch, whose side now sit sixth in the Magna Dorset Premier League, said: “We were dominant throughout the whole game.

“They have obviously got a few problems at the minute but you can only beat what is in front of you and this result should give us a big boost in confidence ahead of some tougher games to come.

“We were not brilliant in the first half but in the second we stepped it up another notch and added five more.

“All the strikers found the target as well, which was very encouraging, and there were some good individual performances.

“Dan Austin came in for his first game and did well and Scott returned and bossed it at the back, but the pick of the bunch for me was Stewart Walbridge, who had a great game in the middle of the park.”

Chickerell’s next outing will see them lock horns with fifth-placed Holt United at Weymouth College. The Bulls sit one place and five points above Welch’s men but have played two games more.
