MATT Groves believes the Terras possess the tools to give Havant & Waterlooville a fright at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.

A hectic period of 20 games in just 78 days finally caught up with Weymouth at the weekend as they slipped to a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Redditch United but their player/assistant-manager is confident they will bounce back.

Groves told Echosport: “With the amount of games we have had recently it was inevitable we would have a flat performance at some point – it is just frustrating that it happened on Saturday.

“After winning at Hemel Hempstead the previous weekend, we targeted at least four points from last week’s two home games, which would have got us into a great position, but unfortunately we only picked up one.

“However, it has been and gone now, so it is important we draw a line under it straight away and get our spirits up for what will be another massive home game on Saturday against Havant & Waterlooville.

“The fact we do not have a midweek game this week is a huge bonus as it will allow the lads to recuperate a bit.

“We have pretty much been playing two games a week for the last two months and a few of us have been carrying knocks for a while, so it will be nice to get those sorted and come back fresh for the weekend.”

Groves missed the defeat against Redditch due to a stomach injury but is confident he will be back for the visit of the Hawks.

He added: “I think it’s just a slight pull. I started to feel it a couple of weeks ago and fingers crossed it is nothing too serious.

“I probably should not have played in the Swindon game to be honest as I was only about 50 per cent but I am confident I will be back on Saturday.”

Havant currently sit 15th in Blue Square Bet South but having scored 30 goals in their last 13 games the Terras will feel they can cause the Hampshire outfit some problems.

Groves said: “We feel like we can score against anyone at the minute but the important thing is that we get back to being hard to break down.

“Over the last couple of weeks we have conceded too many soft goals and that is something we need to work on as a whole unit, not just the defence and the keeper.

“Havant have some strong and experienced players and unless we are well-drilled they will exploit our weaknesses.

“If we are solid and everyone puts in a good shift there is no reason why we cannot give them a good game.”

The winners of Saturday’s third qualifying round tie will pocket £4,000.
