RADSTOCK TOWN 1

BRIDPORT handed boss Trevor Senior the ideal birthday present with victory over fellow strugglers Radstock Town.

The Bees’ chief today celebrates his 50th birthday and his players marked the occasion with a fine display and three crucial points in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.

The manager said: “It was a good result and we scored three very good goals.

“They enjoyed spells of possession but they never really damaged us too much.

“Overall we had the better chances and although it was a bit scrappy at times, the three points was the most important thing and it gives us a five-point gap on Radstock.

“That’s four points from a possible six and we’ll now look to try and get something at Longwell Green this Saturday.”

The Bees made the perfect start when they took an early lead through Shane Evans – volleying home from a corner.

Darren Watts almost added a second, following Jamie Morgan’s pass, but it remained 1-0 at the break.

The visitors upped the tempo in the second period but were restricted to limited opportunities.

Bridport meanwhile, continued to carry a threat going forward and they doubled their advantage when Tom Richardson found the top corner with a first-time shot from 25 yards.

Radstock refused to give in and managed to pull one back, only for the hosts to restore their two-goal cushion almost immediately.

Dan Wise delivered into the box and substitute Joe Charles, replacing older brother Sam after he had dislocated his shoulder, got there before the keeper to make it 3-1.

The win lifts the Bees into 14th spot, four points adrift of their next opponents, who lie 10th.

Commenting on Sam Charles’ injury, Senior added: “He hadn’t been on the pitch long as I brought him on for Jamie Morgan.

“He went clean through but was taken out by the keeper and dislocated his shoulder.

“He went to hospital to have it put back in and I imagine he will be out of next weekend’s game.”
