STURMINSTER MARSHALL 1 Chickerell UTD 5 SHANE Sheridan grabbed a hat-trick in only his second appearance for the club as Chickerell United came from behind at Sturminster Marshall in the Magna Dorset Premier League.

Daryl Williams put the hosts ahead before Sheridan capitalised on an unfortunate slip by a defender to equalise just two minutes before half-time.

The powerful forward, who recently joined the club from Weymouth Reserves, was a constant threat alongside strike partner Josh Why but it was Stewart Walbridge that grabbed the all-important second goal for the Chickens on the hour when he struck home from the edge of the box.

After that United took full control with Sheridan adding a third before Why volleyed in a fine cutback from Nick Etherington to put the result beyond doubt.

Sheridan then went on to complete his hat-trick in the closing stages to wrap up a fine afternoon’s work for United in tricky conditions.

Chickens’ boss Maurice Welch said: “It was a good game. The pitch was in a bit of a state after a game was played on it a couple of days before but we got on with it and the boys played some good stuff, as did Stur.

“They took the lead after 20 minutes from their first attack before we equalised just before the break which was thoroughly deserved.

“One apiece was probably fair at half-time but in the second we absolutely bossed it and as soon as we scored the second they cracked.”

The Chickens, who will host Blandford United this Saturday, remain sixth in the table.

Chickens: Weeks, S Welch (Peck 80), Hinton, D Welch, Sibley, Miles, B Skelton, Etherington, Walbridge (Lambert 75), Sheridan, Why. Sub not used: J Welch.
