WEYMOUTH face a crucial few days as they look to take a major step towards a historic double.

The Monmouth Avenue club resume their Dorset & Wilts One South title tilt at home to Salisbury Seconds tomorrow (2.30pm), before locking horns with Supermarine in the final of the Dorset & Wilts Plate on Wednesday.

However, head coach Paul Harding wants his men to forget about next week’s showpiece and instead focus all their energy on tomorrow’s league encounter.

He said: “The final is a long way off our mind as the most important thing is that we win tomorrow – that is our focus.

“We would like to win the Plate and progress into the RFU competition as you are then in with a chance of going to Twickenham, but the main aim for us is league rugby.

“We had a good year in 2011, despite a couple of disappointments towards the end, and I feel that if we can start this year as we started this season then we will do well.”

On the subject of team news, Harding, who received his RFU Coach of the Year award at a glittering ceremony on Thursday night, added: “We will have a strong side out tomorrow, so much so that I have had to drop a few key players down to the seconds.

“We have got a lot of players coming back who could be in contention for Wednesday’s final but a lot will depend on tomorrow’s game.”

Brothers Julian and Will Quick are back in contention, as are Harry Charles, Craig Barter, Max Vallance and Dave Oakford.

Dorchester welcome lowly Corsham to Coburg Road for their first match of the calendar year (2.30pm).

Despite losing their last outing of 2011 at second-placed North Dorset, the county town outfit have been in good form of late and currently occupy fifth spot in Southern Counties South.

Tomorrow’s opponents lie third from bottom but did record a 17-8 victory over Martin Oxland’s side when the two teams last met in September.

Elsewhere, Bridport return to Dorset & Wilts One South action with a trip to Westbury (2.30pm).

A bonus-point victory would see Mark Botten’s men draw level with their fifth-placed opponents.

Puddletown face their stiffest test of the season so far when they take on unbeaten Dorset & Wilts Two South leaders Oakmeadians Seconds at Greenfields (2.15pm).

But after a 37-0 win at North Dorset last time out, Villagers’ coaching co-ordinator Toby Musgrove is looking forward to the challenge.

He said: “We have a strong squad to select from and we’ll be looking to our experienced players to lead on the field.

“It promises to be an intense game but if we play to our strengths and maintain our discipline then I’m confident we can come out on top.”

In South West One East, Swanage & Wareham begin 2012 with the visit of High Wycombe (2.15pm).
