ALAN Knight is guarding against complacency ahead of tomorrow’s visit of basement boys Thurrock (3pm).

With just 13 points from 22 outings, the Fleet are currently eight adrift of safety in Blue Square Bet South.

And having gone almost seven weeks without a win, the odds are heavily stacked in the Magpies’ favour.

However, their boss is not taking anything for granted.

He said: “No game in this league is easy. They are fighting for their lives and they have brought in a few new faces.

“I’ve watched them a couple of times, including last Sunday’s defeat to Chelmsford, and they certainly give it a go.

“Upsets can happen so we’ve got to be at our best. At the end of the day it’s about what we do, and if we go out there with the right attitude hopefully we won’t be too far away.”

Seventh-placed Dorchester recovered from their Boxing Day blip with a 1-0 victory at Salisbury City four days ago, but have taken only two points from their last three matches on home soil.

Knight, hoping to record his first win at the Avenue Stadium since taking the reins at the end of November, added: “Through our own fault, the Boxing Day result was not a good one.

“We were disappointed with it but on Monday we went a long way to exorcising those demons.

“Thurrock will make life difficult for us tomorrow and we do have a few things to prove at home so it’ll be an interesting one.”

The Magpies will be forced to make at least one change tomorrow, with sought-after striker Ben Dickenson nursing the ankle injury he sustained in Monday’s win.

There are also doubts surrounding the fitness of fellow forward Andrew White (thigh) and skipper Mark Jermyn (groin).

The county town chief said: “With Ben being injured we will have to make changes.

“There are also a couple of other players carrying knocks. Jem has got a bit of a groin problem and Andy has got a slight thigh strain.

“It’s about managing those injuries as best we can.

“We want to give Ben the best treatment possible but first we need to wait for the swelling and bruising to go down. He’s a young lad so hopefully he will mend fairly quickly.

“As much as it hurts to lose him, it gives others an opportunity.”
